Post wedding day brunches are becoming increasingly popular within recent years, as the bride and groom often do not get to spend as much quality time with family and friends, who have traveled long distances to see them get married. By having everyone gather the day after the wedding, it gives them the opportunity to mix and mingle with everyone and spend that extra time with loved ones.
Typically, family members of the bride or groom will host or throw a post-wedding day brunch. Instead of having the brunch at a venue, try and host it at home. Not only it is more relaxed for guests, but there are many ways to keep costs down while having the brunch at home. Now, this event typically does not have to be catered if you can prepare a few days ahead of time. However, you do not have to make everything from scratch as there are some delicious bakeries and caters in everyone’s town.
[box]But first, it is important to know how many guests will be attending the brunch. Will just immediate family members and the bridal party be attending or will out-of-town guests be included as well? In order to have enough food, knowing how many guests will be attending is important.[/box]
If the weather is nice, set up the brunch outdoors. If you do not have enough tables and chairs, ask a few neighbors or family member to drop them by a few days before the brunch. It is easy to set up a backyard brunch even a few days a head of time. The day of the brunch, go ahead and lay out the table cloths and set up a few simple glass vases filled with flowers from your garden.
Keep the brunch simple and relaxed, by having the guests help themselves. Set up a buffet table with brunch favorites. Here are a few simple, yet delicious menu item ideas:
- Coffee, Tea, Juices
- Sangrias, Mimosas, Bloody Marys
Simple Sides: Fruit Salad, Scones, Croissants, Bruchetta
Entrée Ideas: Seafood Quiche, Breakfast Stratas, Mini-Sandwiches, Vegetable Frittatas
Dessert: Various Fruit Tarts, Cheesecake
As you can see, many of these menu items can be prepared ahead of time. Place your food items that need to be kept warm on warming plates or buffet warmers. Have baskets of scones, muffins and assorted breads placed on guests’ tables or on your buffet table. Set up a drink station where everyone can help themselves. Try wrapping napkins around your silverware and place the cutlery bundles in a basket at the end of the buffet line for guests.
By keeping the post-wedding day brunch simple, everyone will be swapping stories about the big day and wonderful conversation and food will be had by all.
