One of the reasons everyone wants to have their wedding in the spring is the beautiful weather. There is nothing better than being outside surrounded by all the flowers and birds. It brings out the best in all of us. An outdoor reception is everyone’s favorite. But you want to keep a few things in mind to make sure it is the reception of your dreams.
Use tablecloth weights so a gust of wind doesn’t ruin all the place settings. After all, you’ll have your best dishes out along with your Oneida flatware. Just because it’s spring doesn’t mean you can’t be bold in your color choices. Go ahead and bring in the colors that you chose for your wedding. It’s adds a sense of continuity. You can do this with napkins, tablecloths, even the color combination of the dinnerware used.
If you are having a buffet outside, make sure there are covers for all the dishes being served. The last thing anyone wants to find in their meal is bugs. You’ll be surprised how fast the bugs come out as soon as it’s warm enough to be outside. If you are having a sit down dinner, you’ll want to have a cover for the butter and rolls for the same reason. Try burning some citronella candles on each table to keep the bugs away. You can spread out citronella pellets about 4 hours before your dinner and they will be a deterrent for the whole meal and then some.
Be smart about choosing food too. Everyone has a horror story about potato salad gone bad or another mayonnaise based food. Lean towards fresh veggies and fruit for your salads. You can have a choice of dressings but it’s best to keep them of a vinaigrette variety. Skip the fish in a cream sauce and go for smoked fish on the appetizer table.
Weather is unpredictable, especially when you have to decide your date far in advance. Make sure to have hot coffee and tea as well as your favorite frozen cocktail just in case the weather turns chilly. It doesn’t hurt to have a few wraps or sweaters available for guests either. If you are not renting a tent, you may want to have umbrellas on standby in case the rain gods don’t smile on you. There is nothing worse than a soggy dinner. If you’re having it near a place you can move inside, make a plan in advance so it will be seamless to you and your guests. After all, you are there to have a good time and share your commitment with all your friends and family.
