Destination weddings are weddings held in a location away from your hometown, and are usually celebrated in the same venue as your honeymoon. Currently the rage among urban brides and grooms, it’s like going away on a holiday with your closets family and friends and having your wedding at the same time. What’s not to love about having your wedding in an exotic of faraway location? Other than making your wedding really unique, it is the perfect excuse for keeping your wedding small and intimate!
Despite a greatly reduced guest list, there are still many factors to consider. Budget, of course, would top that list. According to Marcy Blum, wedding consultant and author of Wedding for Dummies, the etiquette of wedding consultant and author of Wedding for Dummies, the etiquette of destination weddings generally calls for invited guests to pay their own airfare while the bride and groom pick up the tab for lodging, food and beverages at the destination wedding. Do find out from your family and friends if they are willing to pay their own way to your wedding, but also be prepared to subsidize their airfare or pay the whole amount for your guests.
However, if budget isn’t a problem (lucky you!), destination weddings can be a lot easier to plan than a traditional one, as most luxury resorts cater for such weddings. Some even have itineraries planned out for you – you’ll only need to indicate the size of your entourage and length of your stay!
