“Keeping in mind that our guests are always on the lookout for unique and surprisingly different experiences, we have fashioned the journeys to anticipate their needs,” says Sean Brennan, General Manager of Alila Villas Uluwatu. “Whether they are looking for a facet of Bali they never knew existed, or a slice of the island brought to the comfort of their own villa, the journey is crafted to suit their tastes and preferences.”

There are seven journeys you can partake:

1. Journey of Enlightenment (Rp4,500 per person, minimum 2 persons)
The one-day ‘Journey of enlightenment’ affords privileged access to five of the holiest and lesser-visited temples on Bali’s south coast where guests can join the temple priests in prayer and learn more about the incredible voyage of discovery that Dang Hyang Nirartha undertook as well as gain insightful background on the largely undocumented history of the Bukit.

2. Journey to Adventure (Rp1,500 per person)
This journey begins with a scheduled pick up from your villa, proceeding to the resort’s Hill Top perched at the top of the hill, overlooking the resort, Indian Ocean and the trail to Uluwatu Temple. Return to your villa’s Sunset Cabana where champange and canapes await you.

3. Journey of an Artisan

• Journey of a Kamasan Artisan (Rp 2100* per person for a day or Rp 3100* per personfor two days)
  In this journey you will learn about the history, symbols and colours of the two styles of paintings- the wayang style and the realistic scenes of daily life, which was influenced by the western artists.The subject matter of the paintings is based on the Ramayana and Mahabharata epics, battlescenes, and the story of Rama-Sita-Rahwana. This journey can be completed in the comfort and privacy of your villa. Breakfast, afternoon tea and lunch are included.
• Journey of a Batuan Artisan (Rp 2850* per person for a day or Rp 4750* per person for two days)
  Painting time! The Batuan painting style is often characterised by sultry and crowded representations of either legendary scenes or themes from daily life. Colours are limited and predominantly dark, lending an eerie atmosphere to the whole pictorial, and the influence of the Balinese belief in the mystical and supernatural is very apparent. This journey can be completed in the comfort and privacy of your villa, lunch will be arranged either in your own villa or at The Warung. Breakfast, afternoon tea and lunch are included.
  
• Journey of a Contemporary Artisan (Rp 2850* per person for a day)
  This journey will stimulate your senses of seeing and touch. You will be part of the process ofcreating vibrant and harmonious compositions of colour, line, rhythm and form. This journey is completed at the artist’s cliff top studio. You will be transferred to the spacious studio by our private hotel car. This five-minute ride will take you into the heart of the local Pecatu community to the grounds of a self-made home-cum-studio perched at the top of the cliff with breathtaking views of the ocean. A picnic lunch will be arranged and set up by your hosts on the roof top of the studio. Breakfast, afternoon tea and lunch are included in this journey.

4. Journey of Gastronomy

• Half Day (Rp 1200* per person)
  Journey of gastronomy presents a half-day cooking class that will introduce you to local ingredients, basic recipes, local cooking methods, local dishes and organic gardening.
  
• Full Day (Rp 2100* per person)
  With the expert guidance of our executive chef, experience shopping at the bustling fruit and vegetable market where you can explore typical regional fruit,vegetables, herbs, spices, live chickens and other livestock. These markets really showcase the daily morning activities of the local community making preparations for their meals. Take a relaxing break before the journey continues with discussion of your dinner menu with the executive chef, followed byhand-on preparation of the different dishes guided by the chef and his team.

5. Journey to You

• Half Day – Morning (Rp 2520* per person)
  Enjoy the morning with a light healthy cuisine then spoil yourself with the perfect half-day journey of physical rejuvenation, age-old beauty therapies and healthy living. Improve your balance, elevate your spirits and satisfy your palate with holistic nurturing and nutrition.
• Half Day – Afternoon (Rp 2520* per person)
  Surrender to the soothing sensations of an eclecticcollection of Asian rejuvenation therapies and healthycuisine designed to restore balance, lift your spirits andsatisfy your palate. Start with detoxification courtesy ofan Asian Herbal Compress Massage. Inspired by the Thai herbal compress treatment, our warm compression parcel combines 14 medicated herbal ingredients and is applied to the whole body with an acupressure technique.   Share the nurturing with this professional and intimate way ofconnecting and healing as a couple. Unwind together!

6. Journey to Environment

• Half Day (Rp. 685* per person)
  Meet Alila’s environmental team who will hand out a plan of the site’ssystems – heat pump, rain harvest system and explain in detail how they work as well as enlighten you on their environs policy and Green Globe certification for design, build and operations. Explore unique artworks showcased in the resort and meet the resort’s landscaper to walk through all unique indigenous vegetation. Participate in their flora nursery programme and receive seeds of their unique plants if you would like to plant them in your home. You can also try your hand at natural composting and enjoy a coffee break. This session ends with a lunch at The Warung and let’s plant and name ‘YOUR TREE’!
• Full Day (Rp. 1,100 per person)
  Visit unique artworks showcased in the resort and meet the resort’s landscaper to walk through all unique indigenous vegetation. Participate in our flora nursery programme and receive seeds of their unique plants if you would like to plant them in your home. You also can try your hand at natural composting and enjoy your coffee break. This first session ends with a lunch at the Warung and then let’s plant. The second session is the time to observe the resort’s unique landscape as you brisk trek down500 steps to the beach. Enjoy leisure time on the beach with an afternoon tea picnic while watching the sunset. Trek back to the resort and savour light dinner at Cliff-edge Sunset Cabanaunder the stars.

7. Journey to Community (Rp. 500* per person or complimentary if donation is made)
Start the journey with lunch at The Warung and visit the ‘BALI LIFE FOUNDATION’ orphanage. Bali Life Foundation is a home that provides housing, education and health care to orphans, abandoned and rejected children from the age of 5 to 15 in Bali. It is led by a passionate couple that supports the children’s basic needs within a loving family environment. The home aims to empower the children to grow up as successful individuals with a superb attitude whose lives will bless the community. Get to know this home and its vision for the community and, of course, meet the children who are sure to touch your heart.
