According to Lee Chng, Shaun’s proposal to Lee Chng was apparently unromantic but was funny in a way… It happened one evening when the couple was about to go to bed when Shaun asked Lee Chng to help him get something from his backpack. Lee Chng agreed and when she opened the bag, she saw a tiny box. At the very same time, Shaun got up from the bed and knelt before her (in his boxers!!), grabbed the box out of Lee Chng’s hand and proposed!! “So that’s the story… no fairy tale proposal,” says Lee Chng  “..but I was thrilled nevertheless” she shared.

Despite the couple living in away from Penang for quite awhile, the couple still wanted to hold the wedding inPenang, the place where they both grew up. As such, the wedding banquet was held at E&O Hotel Grand Ballroom on 28th April 2012. For someone who is fairly young, the groom has a very old heart. He chose the E&O hotel for its rich history and its authenticity. “The hotel is the oldest inPenang(since 1889) and you might be amazed by the people who have stayed there before, the likes of legendary Charlie Chaplin, Chinese greatest revolutionist Dr. Sun Yat San and many more,” enthuses Shaun.

The couple particularly liked the British colonial design of the grand ballroom for it’s space and strategic views of the stage. There was also a beautiful garden just outside of the ballroom which had an ocean view and it was so perfect that at Shaun made up his mind to hold the event there without looking around at any other hotels which was a very bold decision.

In terms of themes or colours for the wedding, the couple felt that there was no real need of it and they did not want to overwhelm or burden their guests with any specific themes or colours to adhere to. Instead, they wanted the wedding to be as memorable as possible.

Much of the couples motto during the planning of the wedding was to have a wedding that was as simple as possible, so when it came to looking for the a gown, Lee Chng didn’t spend much time looking for  her ‘dream gown’. Instead Lee Chng selected two gowns, a dress for a cocktail session held outdoors at the garden and another dress for the dinner in the ballroom. “My view on the wedding gown is that it doesn’t really have to come with a “big” design, instead, be confident and you will definitely be the centre of attention on your wedding day and sometimes simple dresses can also look elegant,” says Lee Chng.

Shaun on the other hand wanted to wear a tuxedo for the evening and started to look for it through various bridal houses but he had no luck finding what he wanted. So in desperation, he tailor made his tuxedo 2 weeks before the wedding and it cost more than both of Lee Chng’s gowns!!!

During the entire wedding banquet and even during the planning process, both Shaun and Lee Chng enjoyed themselves and had a lot of fun. The band entertained the guests with their lovely songs, the ambience was grand and beautiful, the food was delicious and the speech by the groom was a very touching one indeed! The couple like many others, sincerely believe that the key to enjoying your own wedding is to have things as simple as possible.

For YC and ZQ the guiding principle for their big day was that it should be simple but memorable for them and for their guests. They wanted to make sure that they had time to spend time with each other and to also mingle with their relatives and friends, to ensure that they were happy and enjoying themselves. With this in mind, the details worked out naturally, and this cozy gathering of relatives and friends was enjoyable celebration for all of them, YC shares.

YC and ZQ held an intimate lunch reception at the Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel on a Saturday so that most of their guests would be able to attend. Initially, the couple explored the possibility of holding an outdoor wedding, but decided against it because of the afternoon sun. Eventually, they decided on Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel because of its location and their good service.

Before the lunch reception began, the couple had their solemnization of their wedding and their tea ceremony for their relatives at the hotel. Later, the couple presented a bouquet of flowers to each of their mothers while all female guests were given a gerbera. In the end, the kids had the most fun with the pretty flowers. The rest of the afternoon was filled with shared laughter and smiles especially when the ‘surprise segment’ arranged by the emcees, which caught the couple totally off guard. It was fun nevertheless to be surrounded by so many friends and relatives and to receive their blessings.

The most eye-catching, cheeky and unconventional bit about the couples attire was the matching red Converse shoes that YC and ZQ wore. Not only were they retro cool, but it was also comfortable to walk in as both the bride and the groom went around the tables chatting with their guests. The gown for the bride was tailor-made to their requirements by Vivian from Vivian Gown, an online boutique in Singapore. The couple shared that Vivian was very patient with the couple’s requirements and provided them with good advice on the types of gowns that would match the shoes they wanted. For the groom, they bought the attire from various shops.

During the planning of the wedding, the couple tried to use as many bright colours as possible to brighten up the ambience of the event. Many elaborate items were excluded to keep the cost comfortable. The couple strongly believes that the most important thing is to enjoy the whole wedding and to no compare your wedding with that of other couples simply because your wedding was uniquely yours alone.

Alex & Yu Xin got married on the September 9, 2011 (9911) which was an auspicious day. The couple had met in 2004 in university and Alex proposed to Yu Xin on the eve of Christmas 2008. While planning their wedding, both Alex and Yu Xin were very clear about the things that they had to do. As such, the banquet’s design and decoration was handled by Yu Xin while Alex was in charge of the location and the event management. For the decisions on customs and traditions for the wedding, it was done by both sets of parents. That way, the planning of the wedding went pretty smoothly.

The wedding banquet was held at Shangri-La Hotel Singapore because its ballroom could accommodate a huge number of guests (the couple had about 70 tables) and of course the food and service was pretty good. The couple felt that the hotel provided excellent assistance throughout their pre-wedding preparation and wedding coordination which certainly eased their troubles tremendously so that they could enjoy their night more fully.

If a word could be chosen to describe their wedding banquet, the couple says that the word would be “simple” and they truly believe that simplicity is bliss.  The hotel ballroom was simply done up with fresh flowers as the couple wanted their guests to have a memorable evening in a soothing, yet grand environment. Light color table cloths were chosen to blend together with the interior design of the ballroom and the couple engaged a live band to play throughout the  banquet.

The couples theme of simplicity was also cascaded down to the wedding attire. Besides simplicity, Yu Xin valued comfort as the most important criteria while selecting a wedding gown, and everything came together when she found her “love at first sight” gown. It was just a comfortable and plain white gown with a unique touch of black roses but it was the dream gown for the bride. Alex’s suit was also very easy to pick out as anything in black and white would go perfectly with the bride’s gown.

When it came to memorable moments, the groom shared that he gave Yu Xin a surprise during the second march into the banquet hall where she had to walk in alone wile he was on stage singing a love song to receive her. How romantic! Both Alex & Yu Xin was glad that their family and friends helped up a lot during the wedding planning and are convinced that the wedding wouldn’t have been as successful without their help and guidance. At the end of the day, the couple truly believes that keeping things simple was the key to their smooth and wonderful wedding.

Ben and Diana met through a blog which was actually arranged by a friend of Diana’s. Being cheeky, Ben initially pretended to be a friend of Diana’s but she later found out that he was actually just pretending to be that friend. As Diana was a very family person and her parents mean the world to her, Ben did not propose with a ring or flowers to Diana. Instead, he went directly to Diana’s parents and asked for their blessing without Diana knowing as Ben remembered Diana telling him that to be able to marry her, he had to marry her parents first!

While planning the wedding, which was more like a party and celebration instead of a typical wedding, Diana admits that Ben compromised a lot and allowed her to explore and do a lot of interesting and fun things from creating 350 pieces of invitation cards and 530 pieces of souvenirs to setting up their our own photo booth display to dancing with their groomsmen and bridesmaids. To further ensure that the guests enjoyed themselves and had fun, the couple also had a live band and lottery tickets to give away to their guests.

An interesting thing to note about Diana and Ben’s wedding is their theme which revolves around green apples – apple green colour @ Apple of My Eye! Since she was young, Diana wanted to have a wedding which had apples… so from their wedding car decoration to reception table, guest tables, wedding aisle and main table they had elements of apples. There were also green balloons {and a cool bride and groom balloon} around Noble Banquet, the restaurant inKuala Lumpurwhere the couple decided to hold their wedding banquet.

Diana and Ben shared that there were definitely ups and downs during the planning process of their wedding but they managed to compromise. They also believe that setting a budget for the wedding is very important as it planning and preparing early. However, Diana and Ben advise couples to enjoy this planning process as it only happens once. Overall, the couple was happy that their wedding was a success and that everyone enjoyed themselves.

Jenny from Singapore and Juan from US met online through one of the largest dating websites in the US, E-harmony and little did the couple know that their friendship would later blossom into something more. After months of connecting via email, Skype and phone calls, Juan flew to Singapore to meet Jenny for the first time and that’s when the both of them knew that they were meant for each other. The next time the couple met, they were in Langkawi and when Juan got down on one knee at their beach front chalet and delivered a beautiful proposal and a diamond ring to Jenny, Jenny said “yes”. In less than 2 months, Juan moved to Singapore to be with Jenny and the couple finally tied the knot in March 2011 in Penang.

The wedding was held at 32 Mansion inPenang. The couple exchanged vows outdoors at the Babylon Lounge which was followed by a buffet dinner in the dining hall.  The venue of 32 Mansion was lovely and romantic as it had a lot of greenery and was by the beach.

Both Juan and Jenny did not have a specific theme for the wedding but they had hoped to create a romantic,  easy and elegant ambiance for their guests hence they chose light colours for the night. The decorations were mostly fresh flowers with white and pink heart shaped balloons. Jenny’s 9 elder sisters definitely helped make the wedding special by decorating the registration table and having jelly bean and pistachio buckets for the guests.

The night was also filled with entertainment such as slide shows, piano performances from Jenny’s nephew and nieces and Jenny even sand a song for Juan. There was even a DJ for the after party! Being very sporting, both Jenny and Juan had a very special first dance where they incorporated MC Hammer’s “You can’t touch this” into their dance routine.

For Jenny, one of the most memorable moments was when she walked down the aisle with her mother and all 9 of her sisters. It was a unique experience and a good one for the family as Jenny had lost her beloved father a year ago. Another special moment for Jenny was when Juan began to say his vows. Juan expressed his sincerest feelings and his love for Jenny and as soon as he began to read his vows, he was so overcome with emotions that he began to tear. Not only did Jenny start tearing as well but the guests too teared up over this sweet display of love.Both Juan and Jenny agreed that the whole wedding was magical and the couple was so happy to be surrounded by their close friends and family which was simply perfect.

The lovely and inspiring couple met as colleagues in Kuala Lumpur and became close friends who shares the same passion for music, travel and a wicked sense of humour. Over time, friendship blossomed to romance, love and this day, marriage.

The venue
Deciding against conventional route, they found the perfect venue at an intimate restaurant in Kuala Lumpur, Bijan whom serves up exquisite traditional malay culinary. What was most important to Adam and his bride was for the guests’ to experience and share with them a meaningful celebration to cherish made out of fun, laughter and love.

The theme
“Our wedding was inspired from the pastel pink sapphire and diamond engagement ring given by Adam, I love pastels, primarily lavender and tea-rose pink hues. I knew instantly that I would like to incorporate a variety of flower arranged into different-sized clear glass vases and organza to line the dining tables. Poetry of Flowers also helped create the beautiful hantaran arrangements for both the bride and groom.”

The attire
“I knew what I always wanted: an easy-to-wear dress. The clock was ticking and I felt the pressure to just pick one of the designers I have met with. Finally with Syaiful Baharim, he took all of my inputs and translated them into a beautiful sketch. I instantly fell in love with it and when I finally put on the dress at fitting, it is exactly how I imagined it would be. Adam’s attire was from Salikin Sidek and the songket for his sampan was specially ordered from a Kelantanese songket marker.”

The guests
“We informed our guests that the dress code would be pastels and they all arrived fashionably attired in pastels. We imagined that this would later translate beautifully cohesive in the wedding photos. On each guest table, we had our personal note, displayed on white picture frames to welcome and thank our guests for being with us. On the other side of the note, I listed down all the words that I imagined would be experienced by the guests such as “laughter”, “cherish”, “share” and of course “love”.”

The knick-knacks
“In place of a traditional cake, we had a baker friend to make scrumptious red velvet cake-in-a-jar for the guests to take away as favours. For the little ones, I handpicked and packed colourful stickers, adorable animal-shaped clips and a bottle of “bubbly” into white and purple paper bags. Adam and I decided to inject a bit of fun and humour by setting up a photobooth station where we filled a vintage luggage with props such as angel wings and halo, fauz mustaches and beard, Elton John-type glasses and pirate paraphernalia for the guests to experiment and strike a pose with.”

Their Story

Chun Pong (from Hong Kong) and Xiang Ning (from Singapore) met in National University of Singapore where Chun Pong was Xiang Ning’s Orientation Group Leader. The proposal happened on Xiang Ning’s birthday on a roof garden. Chun Pong had given Xiang Ning a bouquet of flowers and a photobook containing photos of the couple and on the last page, he had written a special message for her. After she was done reading, Xiang Ning knew that Chun Pong was proposing to her. Chun Pong did not need to get down on his knees because there were a lot of people around at that time. However, he had to wait a couple of minutes (which Chun Pong felt like ages) until Xiang Ning finally said ‘yes’ to him.

The couple held their wedding at the panorama room on the 24th floor, Hilton Singapore as it was the only place they could find that was big enough and available for the date that Chun Pong’s grandma had selected.

A touching and happy  moment for the couple was when their friends had decorated their wedding suite with pink helium balloons and red rose petals during the last part of the dinner as a surprise for Xiang Ning.

Most of Xiang Ning’s inspiration for her dream gown (a tube gown with a criss-crossed back) came from bridal magazines and of course browsing through bridal stores. As for her Chun Pong, he had two suits, a black one and a silverish-grey one. On top of that the groom had a custom mandarin collar suit in a cream and the bride had a qipao. The bridesmaids all wore grey convertible dresses that they could wear according to their own styles while the groomsmen wore simple white shirts (for the day) and pink shirts (for the dinner) with dark pants.

Both Chun Pong and Xiang Ning felt that the most memorable moment was when they shared a kiss after the ROM and it hit them that they were now husband and wife.

Their story
Maysan and Zack is a living proof that true love can survive long distance relationship. They got married in a local church St. Ignatuis, Petaling Jaya where Zack attended through his growing years, for sentimental reasons.

“We are both working as medical doctors. We met ages ago while studying in college. We dated for three months and I left for United Kingdom. We had 7 years of long distance relationship, where countless phone calls, text message, Skype dates and travels became our means of communication. We relocated to Singapore in 2009 and a year later, Zack asked for my hand in marriage.”

The attire
“I found my dream dress at Designer Bridal Room, my mom and I could not stop smiling the moment I put them on. I knew it was the dress! My cheongsam was made-to-measure by very talented people at Divine Couture.”

The wedding
The couple had initially wanted a destination wedding but opted for a wedding celebration back home in Kuala Lumpur due to their grandparents inconvenience to travel. “My grandma is 100! The Westin was chosen based on Leticia, our wedding planner’s recommendation of its immaculate service, excellent food, as well as the ballroom.”

The theme
“The keywords for our theme were spring, fresh, foliage and trees,” says the bride, delightfully describing her wedding inspiration. Light pink and touches of green is used for the day ceremony while the reception uses darker uses darker shades of pink for dramatic effect.

The guests
“The wedding was all fun and laughter especially with the clever photobooth they had,
“our guest could not get enough of the photobooth. It was cute seeing even grandpa decked with a pink feather boa and top hat. At the end of the night, we surprised the guests with a montage of their funny photos to the song Love Me Do by the Beatles, with the final photo being Zack and I holding up a ‘thank you’ sign.

Their Story

Caroline was originally from Sitiawan, Perak while her husband Sid was originally from Laos. The couple met at work in Melbourne,Australia when Sid became Caroline’s mentor and it was then that their relationship began. Both Sid and Caroline has been going out for more than six years before Sid finally proposed on Valentine’s Day 2010. Sid placed an advertisement in the local newspaper, the Herald Sun, with his proposal and on top of that,Sunrise on Channel 7 a popular breakfast show, found out about it and subsequently did an interview with Sid. On Valentine’s morning, Sid woke Caroline up really early, turned on the TV and left the newspaper right in front of her.  Naturally Caroline was very surprised to see him on national TV but proud of him at the same and of course Caroline said ‘yes’.

Location

Sid and Caroline’s wedding was held in Pangkor Laut Resort on 26 January 2012. What the couple loved about Pangkor Laut Resort was the natural beauty of the island, the marine and wild life – there were monkeys, hornbills, peacocks roaming the island and that it was a private island and was definitely very romantic with mood lighting throughout the island.

Theme and Colour

Because it was a beach wedding, the couple chose pale yellow / daffodil because it was such a happy and cheerful colour and blue to match the sea. Their style throughout the wedding was casual, light-hearted and enjoyable. What the couple loved most was the floral gazebo and all the other floral arrangements that Pangkor Laut Resort provided. However, they agreed that nothing could beat the natural beach setting in Emerald Baywith the beautiful sunset and sparkling blue water.

Attire

Caroline found her dream dress by BCBG Max Azria at Nordstrom department store in San Fransisco along with a pair of Jimmy Choo shoes and jewellery by Nadri. Sid chose his outfit from Wedding Tropics, an online store and the best thing was that he could custom make his outfit along with his best men’s outfits. The bridesmaid dresses were long flowy daffodil dresses.

Most Memorable Moments

Sid shared that his most memorable moment was when he saw Caroline walking down the aisle and he realised how beautiful and lucky he was. For Caroline, her most memorable moment was when Sid got up to sing, “How Deep is Your Love”, with a two-piece band during dinner. It was really sweet, funny and unexpected.

A Bride’s Diary, Emily

I first met James in Dubai, at work, and we were pretty much inseparable from the moment we met. The day after we met James gave me a CD that he had made for me, the week after he started leaving pieces of fruit on my keyboard at work with little stick men drawings on them, and taught me to make some mean pasta, and after we had been together for about 3 weeks he took me away for a surprise weekend in Rome, after 4 weeks we started to look for a house to buy together. This was all pretty indicative of how lovely James is, day in day out. Having known him for 6 years now, I can say he is such an amazing person, and that he tries every day to do the right thing and to make those around him and the people he loves happy. I feel truly blessed every morning when I wake up with him beside me.

About a year after James proposed, I got a phone call at work to tell me that my Dad had passed away, totally unexpectedly. It was the most horrible time that I have ever experienced and James was, and still is, unbelievably supportive. I don’t know what I would have done without him. It means more than I can say that James had asked my Dad’s before he asked me to marry him.

James asked me to marry him the morning after the wedding of one of my best friends, at which I had been a bridesmaid. It had been something of a late night, so I was rather surprised when James ordered breakfast in bed…with Prosecco. When he pulled out a beautiful engagement ring and asked me to marry him I was so shocked that I didn’t remember to say anything until he prompted me by saying – “you haven’t actually said yes yet”!

We went over to Florence and met our amazing wedding planner, Rossana, and her husband Franco and decided on Castello di Vincigliata and I fell in love with the small church nearby. I had such fun planning all the elements of the wedding (and how have left my corporate world to be a graphic designer). I would have loved to have taken our vintage typewriters, beautiful old hardbacked classic romance novels, scrabble tiles as part of our wedding decor but had no room for them.

I loved my dress as soon as I put it on, especially loved them with the 3.5m lace edged veil. I went gown hunting with my bridesmaids, my mum and brother who was amazingly patient. It was truly a special moment with my mum when we found the one, and my mum bought it for me in a tiny shop, Nati Novias in the small town where she lives in Spain.

I illustrated our wedding invitation myself with a drawing of us both, and bound it inside greaseproof paper with the help of my bridesmaid Shani, with some pink and white striped bakers twine to give it a whimsical look. I used brown craft paper envelopes with white ink and ordered postage stamps with our picture.

It was such a perfect day and we are so grateful to everyone who travelled such a long way for us – our family and friends mean the world to us, and we hope they enjoyed the day and all the details, because really, what could be better than that?

Their Story

Kevin and Jenny were secondary school friends but they lost contact for many years. It was fate that actually brought them together again at one of their mutual friend’s wedding dinner in their hometown. Kevin proposed to Jenny on her birthday on 3 June. He brought her to a dinner and popped the question in the car and they got married the following year on 10 September 2011.

The couple’s wedding was held at Faith Christian Centre with a fairy tale theme in mind which created a unique, romantic and fairy-like ambience for the couple and all the guests.  The colour purple was the chosen colour for the wedding and elements of that colour can be seen through the car decorations and flower arrangements. Both Kevin and Jenny agreed that the decorated stands for the church ceremony was one of the things that they loved most about their wedding.

The hardest part of the wedding planning would definitely have to be the budgeting. Both Kevin and Jenny shared that they had definitely spent more than what they had originally planned and this was mostly due to the pre-wedding photography shoot as they decided to top-up more money for the photo selection.

As a tip, the couple encourages other couples planning their own weddings to always begin planning and preparing as early as possible as it took the couple almost a year to plan their wedding.

The From Inspiration to Reality Shoot was put together by two of our favorite LBB members, Millie Holloman and Salt Harbor Designs and used a collection of artists and designers that set out to interpret this amazing inspiration board that one of our readers put together. It’s the coolest concept ever and with each shoot that we debut, I am more and more convinced that it’s going to be HUGE.

About the gorgeous flowers, from Millie and Jennifer…

The centerpiece for our table was a combination of anemones, lambs ear, lisianthus, berries, French tulips, stock, spray and garden roses arranged in wooden boxes painted to coordinate with the colors. For the Bride’s bouquet, we decided on a more neutral combination of colors, using parrot tulips, privet berry, lamb’s ear, eucalyptus, anemones, and spray roses. Bridesmaid’s bouquet was a brighter mixture of garden roses, spray roses, lambs ear, berries, and parrot tulips.

About the table, from Millie and Jennifer…

We used an old table and painted it white, using mismatched pastel colored chairs as seating. Place cards were attached to the back of each chair with a large paper flower from The Paper Doll. We used patterned wallpaper as the runner and an old letter press drawer to set the arrangement on. We accented the large arrangement with smaller milk bottles filled with flowers. Table numbers were spelled out using letterpress letters. The menus and signage used a letterpress font.

Their story
Andrea had given up on Joey after their first few meetings, thinking that he was not interested. Joey finally summed up the courage to call Andrea after asking her cousin for her number, and they started dating a few months later. After a few years, he planned and proposed to her at Andrea’s father’s semi retirement party and luckily she said yes, else it would have been awkward!

The venue
The villa by Barton G, formerly known as Casa Casuarina a.k.a. The Versace Mansion is the epitome of exquisite taste and luxury, befitting with the opulence that the couple was looking for. Both having Italian background, it only seemed right for them to bring Italy to Miami and the Versace Mansion was the perfect place. With statued fountains, pebbled tiles and mosaic floors and staircases, there was not much need for décor except maybe to enhance the already majestic edifice.

The ceremony
The poolside was the chosen spot for the nuptials, with the backdrop of the stunningly regal looking pool and circular staircases as the entrance. The pebbled Versace emblem in the centre court was marked with colonnades of hollowed columns with candles as an indication of an aisle, where the bride was escorted by her parents.

The reception
While the party was ushered into the open air foyer for cocktails, the poolside was transformed into a reception area for the hundred and twenty guests. For an event with no specific theme, the wedding was spectacular! The bride only requested that there be candles and proper lighting for the pictures and video to be recorded well as the event was outdoors.

The attire
A mermaid silhouette with tulle flare and a sweetheart neckline from Ines Di Santo was paired with grey Valentino shoes, a long veil and with a bouquet of beautifully assembled white moth orchids. The dress was embellished with crystals at the bust and the flare. Joey’s navy suit with black lapels was by Valentino.

The cake
A creation by Ana Paz Cakes, the all white cake was adorned with roses and diagonal draping. The four tiered filling was of strawberry mocha.

The décor
The abundant amount of candles was in harmony with the display of spiraling white moth orchids in glass columns and centerpiece arrangements for the reception tables. Foyer tables held unique iron vases with white calla lilies and candles. With no specific theme in mind, the event was aesthetically done up by the decorating team in white with glass and shiny iron trimmings.

Today’s Real Wedding is a complete and total knock-out! Jennifer and Matt were married in June at the absolutely breathtaking new Orange County wedding venue The Resort at Pelican Hill, and to help them bring their creative vision to life they worked with Mindy Weiss and her team Mindy Weiss Party Consultants, along with a roster of wedding professionals that would make any girl (especially this girl) weep with joy. Jay Laurence Goldman photographed every special detail, Kate Holt of Flower Wild created spectacular floral decor, Elysium Productions filmed the celebration, Laura Hooper Calligraphy designed the vintage style letterpress invitations, there was fashion from Jenny Lee, Monique Lhuillier, Shoshanna, Phillip Lim and Ermenegildo Zegna… (sigh) the list goes on and on!

Their wedding ceremony was highly personalized, and started off as Jennifer walked down to an acoustic version of Here Comes the Sun. Jennifer and Matt wrote their own vows, and there were readings from The Velveteen Rabbit and a Bob Dylan song.
To bless the wedding rings, they asked their brothers and sisters to surround them in a semi-circle to pass along their good fortune as happily married couples. Matt’s cousin, a priest, gave a reflection, and flower petals were joyfully thrown as the couple made their way back up the aisle.

Using a color palette of soft teal, peach, metallic rose gold and a bright pop of orange, the beauty of Pelican Hill was taken to a whole new level! These colors and a romantic vintage-yet-modern style was woven throughout every creative decor item. The invitations, programs, menus, calligraphy, and table cards were teal, peach and metallic, and Jennifer added an extra special touch by writing personal notes to each guest inside their escort cards. The bridesmaids wore metallic and peach floral dresses. The flowers arrangements were peach and were held in vintage metallic and stone containers, and the rustic farm tables at the wedding reception were covered in blue linen tablecloths and an abundance of small oranges to create simply lovely tablescapes!

After a cocktail hour, the reception continued with dinner, sentimental toasts by family and friends, a dessert table filled with multiple wedding cakes (I love those rustic stone cake stands!) a night of dancing with the band, and an after party full of fun. Gorgeous!

Their story
Their connection some would say is magnetic; at odds in the beginning they repelled each other. He was late for a workshop class and she snubbed him off. Whether it was weeks or months later was still undetermined, but they met up again and he asked her out for lunch and from then on no force on earth could tear them apart. Just like magnets, their connection was deep and powerful and after four years, the intensity of their relationship became electrifying when he proposed.

The ceremony
Under the old oak tree, the happy laughing couple said their vows and took their oaths to love and cherish each other. The ceremony was uniquely done to conjure up tear inducing moments, with the atmosphere made to feel relaxed, real and personal to everyone.

The reception
Their energy and excitement were shared with family and friends at a cozy and warm Santa Margarita Ranch where the reception and dinner was held, amidst a rustic setting done up beautifully into a chic eclectic ambience.

The theme
Aimed at creating an intimate affair for all, the happy-go-lucky couple didn’t go for a them, but more on a feeling – a feeling inspired by a store ‘Anthropologie’ that housed simple and sweet items.

The attire
Jackie was gorgeously adorned in a mermaid cut San Patrick creation, paired with shoes from Nina, while Jamison was smartly decked in grey Italian Mattarazi Uomo. Her entourage were in shades of grey by J. Crew and Rachel Paley, and his wore dark suits with slate grey tie to match.

The décor
The venue was designed with unique décor, birds nests and glass cloche centerpieces, peonies and potted plants accompanied by delicately floral embroidered linens.

The gifts
In sharing their sweet moment, guests were treated to favours of the sugary kind by Café Chocolat of Palm Springs, owned by Jackie’s uncles.

Both Alwin and Mei Ling were introduced by a mutual friend at a club and after a few months of persistence on Alwin’s part, Mei Ling agreed to go out with him. Alwin proposed to Mei Ling while on holiday in Krabi, Thailand. He bought a lot of junkfood, to the hotel room, namely Burger Rings, and hid the engagement ring amongst the snacks. When Mei Ling finally found the ring, she was a bit taken aback and surprised but when Alwin got down on his knees and asked her to marry him, she said “yes”.

Location

The couple’s wedding was on 31 December 2011 and their wedding reception was held at the Grand Ballroom of Doubletree, Kuala Lumpur. Both Alwin and Mei Ling loved the ballroom because of its pillar less structure, the cozy ambiance, and the spacious cocktail foyer for the couple to mingle with our guests. The ballroom also overlooked the hotel pool so the view was quite beautiful. The couple was also amazed at the warm hospitality and the helpfulness of the hotel staff.

Theme

The theme for the couple was “infinity” and the infinity logo ran throughout their wedding collaterals such as invitation cards, table décor and place cards. The colour theme was a combination of bright fuchsia, silver and white as the bride always liked strong colours. The wedding décor at the ballroom was also simple, classy and elegant and not too overwhelming.Budget
In terms of budget, the couple didn’t really set one, but they knew that they had to keep the figure reasonable. A whole chunk of their budget went to the reception dinner at the hotel, with a smaller budget dedicated to pre-wedding photography, flowers, décor, entertainment and attire.

Attire
The couple also signed up for a pre-wedding photography package with Vogue Collection in SS2 which included a wedding and evening gown. The bride fell in love with a beautiful, crystal-embellished princess cut gown the moment she tried it on whilst her evening gown was a simple, green, strapless gown with a beaded bodice and train. As for shoes, the bride had very pretty custom-made ivory wedding shoes with a bow and embellishments at the back by Celest Thoi. The groom got his suit tailored from Lord’s Tailor in Bangsar Shopping Centre, in a dark charcoal grey colour and the bridesmaids had long dresses tailored by Casuarina Tailor.

Most memorable moments
A memorable moment for Alwin and Mei Ling for their wedding would be their  first dance together as husband and wife, simply because they went for dance classes to practice their steps, and also because Alwin was definitely not a dancer! The fact that the groom made an effort to learn did illustrate how much he cared for his new bride and the wedding Another memorable moment was when Alwin took over the microphone and started rapping to Gangsta’s Paradise when the guests were on the dance floor. Our guests also enjoyed taking photos at the photobooth.

Their story
At their first meeting, she thought he was arrogant and he just couldn’t be bothered. A year later, they found out that there was to be a seminar and that they’ll be working together. Needless to say, she wasn’t really happy about that. They say third time’s the charm and true enough, they met in France and discovered each other’s true colours. From the on, there’s only three things left to do, propose, get married and celebrate!

The venue
After an endless search for a garden space to hold the cocktail reception, they finally found it at the Cyberview Lodge. The place was perfect to entertain the two hundred and fifty or so guests, with a ballroom on top exclusively for their reception.

The theme
They both lived in France and being far away from family made them realize how important they were, and to show their appreciation, their theme revolved around their loved ones. Love so precious and priceless like pearls and diamonds, they had to go along with that theme. Stings of pearls and diamonds hung from the ceiling and wonderfully complemented by the soft glowing lights from the candles that were brought in all the way from Germany in ten full suitcases. Decorative items, also from Germany were made to enhance the centerpieces made from ivy, white calla lilies, dianthus, eustome and roses.

The attire
Charmaine had a few dresses for the event. A white gown with sparkling motifs, creation from Orson Li Yu, a blue evening gown by Eric Choong and a golden design by Bernard Chandran. Mark was decked in pret-a-porter Hugo Boss and for the evening wore a tuxedo by Bespoked by designer Ryan.

The cake
The four tiered wedding cake was white with a cream coloured ribbon around the middle and adorned with their first initials on top with sparkling motives to suit the theme.

The gifts
In keeping with the theme, the couple gave their guests chocolates in transparent plastic bubbles with a thank you note tied with silver coloured ribbon, and a candle in the shape of a Cinderella carriage.

Their Story

Brian and Joanne met through friends about ten years ago and have been close ever since. They grew even closer when Joanne landed a job in the same company as Brian. After many breakfasts, lunches, dinners and movies, they started dating in late 2008 and on their second anniversary, Brian got down on bended knee in a quiet part of Pavilion and proposed to Joanne. It was a touching, sweet, romantic and totally unplanned and unrehearsed proposal. “The time was just right,” he said.

Venue
The couple’s wedding was a two day celebration. Their wedding was celebrated on 18 February 2012 at the church of Saint Francis Xavier in Petaling Jaya and they had their tea ceremony and Chinese dinner {at Imperial Garden} on 19 February 2012 which also coincided with Joanne’s 3Oth birthday. The couple both loved the church for its beautiful and simple architecture and stained glass windows and Imperial Garden for the pretty decorations, good food and helpful staff.

There were several things the couple loved about their wedding such as the beautiful hand bouquets and church decorations from Pax Florist and the super delicious sugee wedding cake and lemon poppy seed birthday cake. When Brian and Joanne  were planning the wedding, they knew they wanted a relaxed and fun celebration where everyone would feel comfortable and enjoy themselves and from the feedback they received, they believed they managed to have such a wedding.

The couple was also blessed to have many friends and family to help with the wedding. The decorations for the bride’s house for the tea ceremony was done by her nieces and nephews and they did a wonderful job with balloons and ribbons. For other DIY elements for the wedding, such as the car and chair signages, the bride designed them on her own. A friend of the bride made the beautiful ring pillow and a church friend helped with the car decorations. The couple also had a convoy of 10 bikers to escort the bride to the church ~ the arrival of the bride to the church was very grand and very loud!

The most memorable moment for Joanne was actually walking down the aisle with her father and seeing so many familiar faces around her and then finally, at the very end, seeing Brian waiting for her at the altar. The couple also loved the speeches which were touching, heartfelt and funny from the bride’s father and their close friends. Everyone was laughing and enjoying the speeches, which was wonderful.

The most important part of the wedding planning the couple felt, was compromising. It was about listening to what everyone wanted and finding a solution that would acceptable to all parties. Saving in advance is also important as weddings are not cheap and it is essential to remember that it is okay to wear your spectacles and slippers and being “you” during your wedding.

From very different backgrounds, the couple had to overcome several leaps before joining hands. Ayuz was not one to give up easily and due to his efforts, he won Intan’s heart and they were inseparable until the day they were to wed.

The attire & accessories
The traditional costumes were elaborately beautiful and accompanied by jewellery pieces that enhanced the intricate designs of Javanese batik. The morning reception carried colours of white and gold and the night were of red and gold.

The ceremonies
The ceremonies lasted several days, with many complex traditional rituals to perform as the couple felt strongly with having a cultural element infused in their wedding. The flowers, gifts and accessories all played an integral part which further build to the richness of the rituals.

The solemnization
Taking place under a ‘pendopo’, a large gazebo-like structure that’s a fundamental part of Javanese architecture, the couple exchanged their solemn promise to each other.

The gifts
‘Hantaran’ as they are known in Indonesia, were ranged from shoes to accessories to food and fruits, with the groom giving nine items and the bride giving seven.

Their story
Destined to be together, Kacy and Kirk attended the same university and didn’t even know it. It was years later that they met at a restaurant with friends and a conversation when Kirk made his move by buying the lady a drink. Before you know it, they were hooked!

The ceremony & reception
Set in the heart of a country ranch and alongside the Pacific Ocean, the location blends South and North California. The ceremony took place at Old Santa Rosa Chapel, a quaint wood-sided little church set on the hilltop amongst forests of pine and oak. As the nuptials ended, a bagpiper led a’wedding parade’ from the church to the reception area, with the small town locals clapping and cheering the newlyweds. Approximately one hundred guests took their places at the tables in a rustic and charming barn called ‘The Fog’s End’. Extending the barn with a clear tent gave more room for dining as well as a great view and feel of the countryside.

The theme
Kacy and Kirk wanted to embody the native backdrop as part of their theme, fusing warm and casual with rustic charm. Lush white flowers in jars and urns accompanied by an abundance of candles were pleasing additions to the picturesque venue. To emphasize the natural setting, white and neutral tones were the couple’s choice – from table-runners, napkins, to the draping curtains at the entrance of the barn.

The attire
Their choices not only complemented themselves, but each other as well. Kacy looked elegantly radiant in her strapless scrunched organza and charmeuse gown with a one shouldered floral detail by Augusta Jones.

The cake
To remain within the rustic theme, the baker found inspiration from ‘Paxton & Whitfields’ in London that flourished into a beautiful five tiered cake made from rounds of cheese.

The food
Guests were served with a satisfying local fare ranging from land to sea – oysters with vodka, ahi and shellfish during cocktail hours and hearst ranch beef and halibut for reception dinner.

The gifts
In keeping with the theme of rustic country, the thoughtful couple gave guests a petite bottle of olive oil and a horseshoe – as symbols of good health and good luck!

Their story
After living and studying abroad, both Grace and Leonel met through mutual friends after returning to Jakarta for good. They ran into each other a few times here and there but it was when they were coincidentally in LA at the same time that they were reacquainted. They stayed in touch ever since then, and two and a half years later, he proposed.

The ceremony
The couple began their memorable day with a traditional church ceremony with a modern twist that was complete with a beautifully designed aisle with white canopies and pastel coloured flowers and Indonesian jasmine shaped as doves to symbolize the purity of their love for each other, and an indescribably magnificent after that was embellished from top to bottom with fresh white flowers.

The reception
Yellow being Grace’s favourite colour, the dinner reception was encased in monochromatic yellow, filled with crystals and mirror garlands to dreamily depict champagne bubbles. The ceiling seemed to rain fresh yellow blooms and sparkling crystal droplets, giving guest an enchanted feeling of being in a shimmering garden of dreams.

The attire
The exquisitely designed Cheongsam gave the bride the edge to steal the spotlight, an intricately detailed creation by Adrian Gan.

The gifts exchanged
The exchange of gifts between the couple took place a week before the weeding and were extensively ranged with anything you’d put on from head to toe – from jewellery to dresses, suits and shoes, they lavished each other with gifts that one could only dream of having.

The gift
As wedding favours for their guests, the couple presented them with beautiful little teacups that were filled with scented candles from The Royal Dalton. When the scented candles are finished they can then use the tea cups!

Their story
Battling out the wedding preparations seem like a piece of cake as these two were way prepared from the moment they met at a Thai kick-boxing gym. And true enough, it was! After dating for three good years, they got engaged and tackled marriage head on nine months later.

The ceremony & reception
The groom’s family home became grounds for their big day. They wanted an outdoor event and once that was decided, everything went smoothly as they had more say in every aspect of the wedding. With breathtaking view of the seemingly endless vineyard rolling over the hills, the air gave way to an extravagant picnic party. As the venue was decked out for the hundred and eighty guests of family and friends, the party was savoured the moment it began, from the vows, to the view, the company and pleasant weather to the rocking bank that entertained the young at heart.

The attire
Kelly chose a magnificently laced, mermaid cut wonder by Monique Lhuillier and Alex was clad in an Emporio Armani tuxedo.

The gifts
Instead of having individual gifts, guests were able to choose their wedding favours from the array of purple coloured candy buffet. And due to the uneven ground, a basket of flip-flops were made available for those who choose to change into more comfortable footwear.

The décor
To complement the vineyard setting that was naturally magnificent, Kelly’s favourite colour, purple, was enhanced with the accompaniment of soft greens, silver, and muted earthy neutrals. Large bulbous white lanterns with warm lights hung over the large white umbrellas that canopied over the guests. An arrangement of various shades of purple flowers in mason jars were placed as centerpieces. Everything was done with beautiful simplicity as not to overpower the already stunning backdrop.

Their story
After meeting through a mutual friend during Chinese New Year, they stuck through a long distance relationship as Khee Yian was working in China. Exactly a year after that, he jumped on a plane and first time he did when he landed was get down on one knee!

The venue
Situated in the highlands rainforest the couple took advantage of their surroundings and made it part of their theme. The wooden structure and glass wall at Enderong Hall, Janda Baik gave a spectacular view of their enclosed location and provided the couple with the feeling of natural serenity – just what they were looking for.

The reception
The couple felt that traditional round Chinese tables lack interaction between guests and went with an unconventional table-setting with uneven seating numbers and a buffet style dinner. The warm lights coupled with earthy centerpieces gave a peaceful setting that encouraged guests and host alike to be their natural selves and mingle.

The attire
Shiau Shan was thrilled with the choices she made – beautifully detailed creations from Eric Choong and Precious Wedding Studio. The bridal party followed suit in their dresses from Precious Wedding Studio with colours to match the theme.

The décor
Mother nature lent her hand for Creativelines team in creating unique display items. The attention grabber, aside from the bride, was the different centerpieces on the tables, each unique and wonderfully original.

Their story
At the tender age of fourteen, Dennis and Patricia met at a church gathering, became the best of friends and were inseparable. Over the years, their relationship blossomed from friendship to romance to love and finally, to marriage.

The venue
The Saddlerock Ranch is spectacularly serene with its endless rolling hills of grapevine with a single willow tree in the middle of a patch of tall yellow grass, encircled by white fences and horses. It was love at first sight when the couple first laid eyes on such picturesque scenery and the perfect place for them to celebrate the next step of their journey together.

The ceremony & reception
The couple wanted their guests to be able enjoy an outdoor wedding, and so three hundred and thirty guests witnessed the couple taking their vows under the willow tree, amidst rows of white folding chairs and white tent umbrellas. The party then moved a few feet away to where the reception was held.

The theme
Their inspiration came from their love of all things vintage. The colour palette chosen were gold, ivory, cream, dusty pink and a touch of crimson for drama and main components were a combination of romance and nature – lace, flowers and wood.

The décor
Having antique décor for an outdoor wedding was quite a challenge as the couple didn’t want the décor to look out of place with the natural setting, but they executed it beautifully. Guests signed in with an antique typewriter at the table that displayed old brass keys, table stand fan, a sewing machine and more, accompanied with candles and an abundance of peonies, dahlias and roses. Old suitcases and treasure boxes adorned with flowers and a white baby grand piano added to the vintage elegance. Glass candle holders wrapped in lace, small dove figurines and wooden boxes hand-crafted by the groom himself for the flower arrangements was part of the table settings.

The gifts & food
Guests took home bakery boxes filled with delicate traditional European desserts. The menu for the day was eloquently written on blackboard. Guests were served with a choice of chicken picatta and rack of lamb to name a few.

The attire
An ivory mermaid cut with a sweetheart neckline and intricate lace and beading from the Pronovias 2010 Collection was Patricia’s choice. Dennis’ suit and shirt were from Theory and Burberry respectively, paired with Hugo Boss shoes.

Their story
Moving from South Africa, to Switzerland and the US, and back to South Africa, Christo proposed to Lisa after five and a half years of being together and they decided to tied the knot on their seventh year anniversary.

The ceremony
The couple took their vows in the gardens of The Estuary Hotel, overlooking the breathtaking view of the estuary and the beach. As they make their way down the petal laden aisle as husband and wife, guests filled the air with bubbles and smiles.

The attire
The dress was ordered from a shop in KwaZulu Natal called ‘Belles of Hilton’ who sourced it from Russia. As they wanted a beach wedding, the groom and groomsmen were casually dressed in white buttoned shirts and cotton stripped pants. The bride chose white with a pale blue gauze under-layer and her bridesmaids wore pale blue dresses with empire waist.

The theme & décor
The arrangements were of beautiful and fragrant white lilies paired with driftwood and ocean blue layers. Being so close to the beach, they were inspired by it and decided to have that as a theme. Highlight of the décor was the easels with photos of the couple throughout their years together.

The gifts
A photo-booth with props gave guests an opportunity to take pictures as mementos to go with the photo-frames that everyone received, along with a shooter glass paddle. Both engraved with the wedding couple initials and date.

Their story
Their meeting at a Salsa club through a friend didn’t do much at first, but after a few years, their friendship blossomed into romance, and after several more years, Julian proposed at a remote island off the coast of Malaysia atop a hill with breathtaking view and equally breathtaking Tiffany ring, while having ‘Fall For You’ by Secondhand Serenade playing in the background.

The ceremony
A Church ceremony was decked with a  pianist, a cellist and violinist that filled the air with classics like ‘Minuet in G’ and ‘Pachabell Cannon in D’ as the bridal party made their way down the aisle, followed by the bride herself in the arms of the father.

The reception
Dinner boasts a show done by the bride herself, as she entered the hall serenading her guests and loved ones with a rendition of Etta James’ ‘At Last’, and a dedication to her new husband, a version of Rascal Flatts’ ‘God Bless The Broken Road’. The guests were then entertained even more when the bride and groom changed into their traditional Indian costumes and danced as they entered the room for the second time.

The attire
The gown was a tinge of pink, designed by Eric Choong and the suit was by Raffles Tailor in Singapore. Her saree was from Amitbals, City One.

Their story
Meeting through a mutual acquaintance, these two started off as friends, and as time went by their friendship bloomed into something more. After seven years of dating, they both came to a decision to get married, and they had a traditional engagement ceremony with both families present.

The Theme
With strong traditional influences in their upbringing, it was only natural for Andi and Kara to have a Javanese wedding out of respect for their families and love for the unique elegance and elaborated beauty of the culture. From décor to costumes, the couple made sure the complex details of their heritage were beautifully presented in rich colours of white and green, and décor items were red with hints of gold.

The Ceremony
The ceremonies were extensive and carried with it many more rituals within each one, where Andi and Kara completed in three days. It begins with a simple ceremony of showering the bride and groom-to-be with a mixture of water from seven different sources with seven different types of flowers, and accompanied by prayers. Followed by a few more events, the ceremony is sealed with a solemnization of the couple, a promise of love and respect for each other.

The Reception
The final event is an elaborated revelation of the couple as newly weds. For their reception, the couple and Kara’s mother went for a colonial feel of ‘British India’. A modern atmosphere was evoked with the couple’s attire and dinner reception setting. This marked the ending of a glorious celebration.

The Attire
The clothing for both bride and groom were made from cloth that was handed down from Kara’s ancestors. They were accompanied by traditional jewelry and accessories like the ‘keris’.

Their story
It was only after they joined the local Lion Dance Troupe that they found out they had more things in common than ever imaginable. Gradually, their friendship blossomed and fast forward ten years, during a cold winter night while on vacation in New York City, after a horse drawn carriage ride and a stroll in Central Park under the stars, Steven got down on one knee and asked Amanda to marry him.

The ceremony & reception
It was essential for Amanda and Steven to harmoniously infuse Chinese and American influences as they were both raised in San Francisco with a Chinese upbringing. The day began with a tea ceremony to pay respects to the elders and was followed by a lion dance. Having met through (and are still a part of) the West Coast Lion Dance Troupe, they received blessings by way of performance from their troupe-mates and it was exhilarating and meaningful for the couple. Then, evening harboured as their stunning reception begins where the Western side of their upbringing flows through. The fluidity of two separate cultures were divided by morning and evening and beautifully united in a single day.

The attire
Amanda had her authentic ‘kua’ specially made during a trip to Hong Kong in the summer of 2010. It was beautifully designed with exquisite fabric hand picked by both the bride and groom’s mothers.

The venue
The event housed over 300 guests of family and friends, and the perfect venue found for that is stunningly rich in architectural detailing and history – the Julia Morgan Ballroom at the Merchant Exchange Building.

The gifts
Each guest was given a hand-made photo frame that was custom sized to fit the photos they were able to take at a photo booth during the reception.

The food
A lavish four-course Asian-fusion dinner was the menu for the evening. Individually plated oriental delights of dunganess crab shark fin soup, minced chicken lettuce cup salad, with a choice of either filet mignon or sea bass with lobster tail or vegetarian tofu and shiitake mushrooms for entrée. Not to be outdone, the desserts include tiramisu bites, mangos mousse, crème brulee, and many more but the best was the couple’s favourite ‘DIY’ Froyo Bar!
