The Datai Langkawi opened in October 1993, setting a new standard of luxury and Asian-inspired design, and quickly became one of the world’s most sought-after and award winning hideaway resorts. Designed by world renowned Australian architect Kerry Hill of Kerry Hill Architects in collaboration with interior architect Didier Lefort of Didier Lefort Architects, The Datai was elegantly built to blend with its tropical forest surrounding along with Malaysian architecture in mind. Award-winning Indonesian interior designer Jaya Ibrahim of Jaya & Associates has also been involved in a recent refurbishment project of The Datai.
The Datai’s 40 villas, 16 suites and 54 rooms are all set within the rainforest with their own private veranda and stunning views of the lush tropical landscape and breathtaking Andaman Sea beyond. All guestrooms are spacious ranging from the elegant 62.5 sqm Deluxe room to the lavish and luxurious two-bedroom Datai Suite of 258 sqm. The popular Superior Villas and Pool Villas, located in the heart of the tropical rainforest, are connected to public facilities by a series of pathways. Cornier Suite and End Suites comprise a spacious bedroom with en suite bath, a living area with dining table and a spacious balcony. We also offer Pool Suites consisting of two free-standing bedroom villas connected to a spacious living and dining area with large sunning terrace and shared swimming pool. with two large bedrooms, The Datai Suite also presents an expansive living and dining area, plus a fully equipped kitchen and a sandstone balcony with a panoramic view of the environs from every conceivable angle.
While guests can enjoy LCD flat screen, Bose CD sound system, private bar, iPod dock and tea/coffee making facilities in the room, they can also avail themselves to our complimentary WIFI internet connection in the rooms and common areas. All rooms have individually-controlled air conditioning , humidity control, ceiling fans, satelite TV, DVD player, hairdryers, international direct dial telephones and personal safes.
When at The Datai there is very little need to venture out of the resort to fulfill your dining, relaxation and recreational necessities. The hotel has a scenic Lobby Lounge overlooking the main pool and forest, four dining outlets and a beach bar. The Dining Room is an all-day dining venue with indoor, terrace and al fresco seating offering Western and local cuisine overlooking the pool and forest. Elevated amid the rainforest, The Pavilion is an open-air restaurant serving authentic Thai cuisine for dinner daily. Adjacent to the beach is The Beach Club Restaurant by the sea, a wonderful casual dining option for lunch or dinner. The Beach Club Bar nearby with couple sun-beds and built-in beach benches allows guests to relax while enjoying cocktails and sunset by the sea. The Gulai House, an award-winning restaurant, presents a unique dinner venue. It is accessible via a pathway into the forest and offers delectable Malaysian curry and Indian specialties, set against traditional and rustic Malaysian decor and open-air setting.
Award-winning ‘The spa at The Datai’ opens the doors to the restoration of strength, beauty and balance of the body, mind and soul using ancient healing traditions of the East. Four open-air spa villas are available for guests to experience stimulating body polishes, nurturing envelopment, romantic bath ceremonies, rejuvenating beauty rituals and therapeutic massages. The Spa is open daily from 9am to 9pm and designed to pamper and restore vitality.
See, hear and feel nature at its best as footpaths take you through a centuries-old virgin rainforest. And, if you like the sun and sea, a footpath leading through the jungle will take you to a white sand beach complete with a swimming pool, changing rooms and water sports pavilion. The Health Club offers a wide range of the latest fitness equipment including resistance training, cardiovascular and free weights, a sauna, hot and cold plunge bath as well as group yoga sessions. A lap swimming pool for adults is located on the upper level, while another by the beach is for families with children. Other recreational facilities offered include complimentary morning and evening nature walks our resident naturalist, mountain bicycles and non-motorized water sports at our private beach such as snorkeling, windsurfing and kayaking. A five-minute drive away is The Golf Club at Datai Bay where guests can enjoy a game of golf at preferential rates and complimentary use of tennis courts.
Weddings and events at The Datai are always an extra-ordinary affair given the uniqueness of our destination and theme. While we offer intimate weddings by the sea, the hotel also offers bespoke wedding reception planning at any of our dining venues.
For a corporate event in a leisure setting, the hotel has facilities for small to medium-sized meetings, events and incentive groups. The Meeting Room with a capacity of up to 64 persons caters for small conferences and seminars. For those seeking to hold a larger gathering in a “back to nature” setting, The Gulai House has an enclosed dining area that mekas an ideal venue for open-air meetings and events.
